What Is GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and Does a UAE Business Need It?
Web Ctrl A Editorial Team · Published · 4 min read
Short answer
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) means preparing your business information so AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity can understand it clearly and describe it correctly. It builds on good SEO rather than replacing it. Most UAE businesses benefit from the basics, but nobody can guarantee that an AI tool will mention you.
SEO and GEO in plain words
SEO helps search engines such as Google find your pages and show them in a list of results. GEO has a related goal for a different kind of tool. When someone asks an AI assistant a question, the assistant writes an answer instead of showing a list, and it may mention businesses along the way. GEO is about making your business easy for these tools to understand: who you are, what you offer, where you work and how to contact you.
The two overlap a lot. A fast, clear, well-structured website helps with both. The difference is the emphasis: for GEO, clarity and consistency of facts matter more than keywords.
Does a UAE business need it?
If customers find you through search, recommendations and social media, GEO is a sensible addition and not an emergency. People increasingly ask AI tools for suggestions, and a business with unclear or contradictory information online is harder for those tools to describe. If your basics are weak, fix them first: a working website, a complete Google Business Profile and accurate contact details.
The UAE adds one more point. Many customers search in Arabic and many in English, and your information should be equally clear in both.
What Web Ctrl A does for GEO
- Clear entity data: one consistent description of your business, services, location and service area
- Structured data (JSON-LD) on your pages so machines can read the facts, such as your name, services, prices and questions and answers
- An llms.txt file, a short plain-text map of your site for AI tools
- Consistent business details across your website, profiles and directories
- Content in Arabic and English that answers real customer questions directly
- Technical SEO basics: speed, clean page structure and sitemaps
What nobody can promise
AI tools decide for themselves what to say, and their behaviour changes over time. No agency controls them, so we do not promise rankings, mentions or citations. What we can do is remove the obstacles: unclear facts, missing structure and inconsistent details. Treat any guarantee in this area with caution.
Is GEO a replacement for SEO?
No. It builds on the same foundations, and a site that is hard for Google to read is usually hard for AI tools too.
How do I know if it is working?
You can ask the main AI tools about your business from time to time and check whether the answers are accurate. Accuracy is a more realistic goal than being mentioned in every answer.
