How to Brief a Logo Designer in Dubai: A Practical Checklist

Web Ctrl A Editorial Team · Published · 4 min read

Short answer

A good logo brief answers a few questions before any design starts: who the logo is for, where it will appear, whether you need Arabic and English versions, which colours suit you, and which files you must receive at the end. One clear page saves weeks of revisions.

1. Your business and audience

Describe what you do in two sentences and who your customers are. Mention age range, interests and whether you serve consumers or other businesses. A logo for a family restaurant and one for a law firm should not look alike, and the designer can only know that if you tell them.

2. Arabic and English versions

In the UAE, many brands need the name in both languages. Decide early whether you want an English logo, an Arabic logo or a combined one, and whether the two should feel like the same brand. Arabic lettering is not a translation of the English shapes, so ask to see both versions designed together.

3. Where the logo will be used

  • Social media: a small round profile picture needs a simple version that stays readable
  • Website and invoices
  • Print: business cards, signage, packaging, uniforms
  • Light and dark backgrounds, and one-colour use

4. Colours, style and examples

Share colours you like or must avoid, and two or three logos you admire from any industry, with a line on what you like about each. Say what you do not want just as clearly. If you already have brand colours, include them.

5. Competitors

List a few businesses in your market. The aim is not to copy them but to stand apart: a designer who knows what your competitors look like can avoid looking identical.

6. Deliverables and file formats

  • A vector version (such as SVG, AI or PDF) that can be enlarged without losing quality
  • PNG files with a transparent background for web and social media
  • Colour, black and white, and reversed versions
  • Both Arabic and English versions if agreed
  • Colour codes and font names, ideally in a short brand guide

7. Process, revisions and ownership

Ask how many initial concepts you get, how many revision rounds are included, who gives final approval on your side, and confirm that you own the final files.

Do I need a long brief?

No. One page that answers the points above is enough to start well.
